Tips for improving your basketball intelligence
*Listen carefully to your coaches and players, pick your brains and keep ideas that you like as yours.
*Watch carefully what other players and teams are doing, figure out what works and imitate it.
*Talk to other players and coaches about the game; bounce thoughts and ideas on them.
*Critically assess your own skills and identify your strengths and weaknesses, and attack your weaknesses to make them your strengths.
*Communicate with your teammates and share ideas on how you can help your team play better with each other. Don't make fun of or put down a teammate. This is what I call a bad attitude Attitudes are said to contagious, is yours worth catching?
Tips to help improve your game
*Always strive to improve your game (as well as yourself). Since perfection can never be achieved, we can always strive to perfect our fundamentals of the game.
*Set reasonable challenging goals and push yourself to achieve them.
*Take time for a good warm-up and stretch your muscles (especially your legs) before and after playing.
*Drink plenty of water or sports drinks, especially on a hot or humid day. Try to avoid carbonated drinks e.g. pop before game time
*Work on your weaknesses. Start slowly, and challenge yourself more as you improve.
*Write down what you worked on, and how much you did so you can see your hard work in writing.
*Work out with teammates or other players if possible. Even your parents.
*If you must practice alone, set high standards
hold yourself accountable for your improvement!
*Go hard!!! A tough workout that is shorter in length is better than an easy workout that is longer in length.
*Develop a routine, have a planned workout while still challenging yourself to improve.
Little things that make a big difference (On and off the court)
*Cheering for your teammates from the bench, whether or not you have played in the game.
*Congratulating a teammate that is exiting the game.
*Counting down the time when there are 10 or fewer seconds left in the game
*Helping a fallen teammate or opponent up from the ground.
*Cleaning up after yourself and each other (at home and at game time). E.g. Water bottles and drinking cups; dirty dishes; your dirty laundry
*Staying positive during tough times (especially if your team is struggling).
*Look people in the eye when speaking to them and when they are talking to you.
*Assisting a teammate who is working alone.
*Being on time. E.g. practices; games; school homework assignments
*Staying in the athletic stance, especially on defense.
*Hustling to and from the bench.
*Touching all lines when running sprints in practice.
*Getting good grades (as best as you can).
*Getting to know a teammate that you do not know very well.
*Eating healthy foods, especially on game days. (don't drink pop before a game).
*Moving quickly to and from everything that we are doing in a practice or a game.
*Admitting a mistake and not give excuses.
*Always believe in yourself, your teammates, your coaches, and your team style of play.
