| Instructional Basketball League Playing Rules |
- Two 20 minute halves per games. Five 4 minute periods per half with running clock. Last 2 minutes of each half is a stop clock.
- Substitutions at 4 minute intervals. Full substitutions will take place with 5 new players entering the game. Individual substitutions only can be made if there is an injury. No player can play in two consecutive periods. If a team has exactly 10 players, it is allowed to switch the rotation of players at the half time break. If a team has more than 10 players - no player is allowed to play in more than 2 consecutive periods. If a team has 8 or 9 players - no player is allowed to play in 3 consecutive periods.
- Score will be kept for teams but no individual stats will be kept (points, fouls, etc.). Scoreboard will be reset to zero at half time.
- There is a 10 point scoreboard regulation. Once a team reaches a 10 point lead, the scorekeeper will not put more points on the board for the team that is leading until the lead falls below 10 points.
- No full court pressing - defense must fall back to half court once the opposing team gains control of the ball.
- No playing defense or trapping the basketball outside the 3 point line. All defense must be played inside the 3 point line. During the last 2 minutes of each half, teams will be allowed to play defense up to the half court line. Players must stay within the 3 point line till the opposing team crosses the half court line, then they may go out and play defense up to the half court line.
- Modified 3 second rule. Players will be allowed 5 to 6 seconds in the lane.
- Foul shooting will only take place in the last 2 minutes of each half. Free throw line will be at 12 feet instead of 15 feet. Shooting fouls will be 2 shots, all others will be one and one.
- 2 time-outs per half. |
